Tour Update #1

6/5/2007 at 10:47 AM

Tour Update
So the first three shows of the Sparta/Straylight Run/Love Drug tour have blown by. Tempe was awesome but hot, San Diego was a little awkward (very reserved but kind crowd), and LA was surprisingly cool despite a stomach virus sweeping it's way through our bus. Today in San Louis Obispo (The Iceman Chuck Liddell's hometown!) should be better, as everyone who was sick seems to have a clean bill of health today.

Everyone in each of the bands seem super cool, although us and Lovedrug haven't had the time to get a proper tour bro-down together yet. This should change within the next few shows I hope. They (Lovedrug) have been bringing it every night, and are a super creative, tight band. Sparta is a well oiled machine. Great band, and hysterical dudes as well! I personally am a fan of this entire bill, as I think all the bands bring something different and great to the table.

I was perusing absolutepunk.net today and saw a post about this tour. Seems there is some confusion as to the order in which we all play. This is the Sparta/Straylight Run Co-Headline tour which Lovedrug opens. This means half the dates will be headlined by Sparta, and half the shows are headlined by Straylight Run. Lovedrug always plays first. It's that simple. I believe Sparta is closing all the shows from Tempe through Denver. Straylight closes from Lawrence through Norfolk. Not 100% on that though. Do yourself a favor and get to the shows early, and watch all the bands. You'll be glad that you did!

On a non band related note, I was very surprised to see Chuck Liddell get TKO'd in the first round. I must give Rampage credit, he is a bad man and I can see him holding the light heavyweight title for a lengthy period of time. I'm looking forward to seeing Jackson lock up with Dan Henderson in the future. Anyone that could bring it to Wanderlei Silva while jumping up a weight class has my utmost respect. We are trying to get the K1 PPV tomorrow on the bus. It will be interesting to see Royce Gracie take on Sakuraba again. I also am intrigued to see Brock Lesnar's MMA debut. He's got all the tools to be a dominant fighter, but we'll see how well he can transition from collegiate wrestling. If he fairs well, I think it could certainly light a fire under Kurt Angle's ass to enter the cage. From a pro-wrestling stand point, a shoot between these two would be a huge box office attraction for whatever promotion was able to pull it off.

Sorry for the MMA geek out, but to me it's exciting stuff!

Your pal,

Shaun

Pre Tour Update May 26, 2007

So we're gearing up again to hit the road with Sparta and Lovedrug. With this new record less than a month away from release, I have never felt so invigorated for a tour. We worked very hard to make the best record we possibly could, and now, to finally have that record see the light of day is a huge thrill.

We have been pulling together a few new songs to add to the set list when possible. We are also adding a few more percussive elements to the stage, so Will is stoked. The more drums the better!

Embarking on this tour marks the start of what is shaping up to be a very busy year for us. We're hitting up the Warped Tour this summer which should be quite an experience. It's one of those full circle deals for me as I attended the very first Warped Tour in 1995 at Nassau Coliseum. The bands my friends and I were there to see were CIV, No Use for a Name, Quicksand, and Sick of it All. There were a couple of "crappy" ska bands on the tour no one really cared about too. They were Sublime, and No Doubt. Who knew that just a short while later these bands would just explode?! I think this has been something Warped Tour has been notorious for.

After that, I'm not sure what we'll be up to, but we really want to take this thing worldwide! I'm fairly certain/hoping we won't have much of break until Christmas. So if you have yet to see us live, you will absolutely have plenty of opportunities in the near future.

Oh, I just started hitting up our street team page. It's pretty sweet over there, and I really want it to take off. In the future I will be active in the forums, and if you PM me I will try to get back to you ASAP. If you still haven't joined that deal yet, you can sign up by clicking here:

Anyone watching UFC 71 tonight? Rampage is tough, but I think Liddell will put him away before the 3rd round is over! It has been a year of upsets though, so it will be interesting to see if that trend will keep up.Hope everyone has a happy and safe Memorial Day weekend. We are keeping the men and women serving in our armed forces in Iraq, Afghanistan, and around the world in our thoughts and prayers. We hope you all get home safe and sound ASAP!

Much love,

Shaun & Straylight Run
