Road Trip Playlist

I drove from Vegas to LA this weekend. Traveling is pretty much the only time I listen to music, other than the artists i feature on SMtv. I grabbed a bunch of CD's as I was running out the door and I thought you might be interested to hear how weird my musical taste is. This is the very order I listened to them in:

1. Frank Sinatra - Trilogy
2. Whiskey Town-Pneumonia
3. Carly Simon - Playing Possum
4. Nickel Creek - Why Should the Fire Die (CD was scratched. Could only listen to the first three songs)
5. Dave's True Story - Nature
6. Dave's True Story - Nature (again)
7. Mere Mortals - Rebel Radio
8. Mere Mortals - Cracked
9. Dave's True Story - Nature (again... twice, they're SO good)

There's this one song on Carly's album Playing Possum that's so lyrically poignant. It's called Slave. I think I'll paste the lyrics below. I love it. It talks about how women are raised to be slaves to men. It got me thinking though, men and women are slaves to each other for different reasons. Women want to be saved and men want sex, it seems : )

In other news, thank GOD I've lost the 10 pounds I gained at Christmas. If anyone finds it, keep it!

And, you'll all sleep better knowing the french fry was gone when I returned to the gym tonight.

Slave - Carly Simon, Playing Possum 1975

Listening for your footsteps
Just waiting like a fool
Burning with a fever
Only you can cool

The clock beside my pillow
Has ticked away the night
Like a heartbeat mocking me
Until the light

Gotta stop these thoughts about you
Gotta learn to live without you
Gotta find some freedom for this weary slave
'Cause I'm hungry for you
And I'm longing for you
And I'm burning for you

I worship your opinions
I imitate your ways
I try to make you grace me
With a word of praise

However much I tell myself
That I'm strong and free and brave
I'm just another woman
Raised to be a slave

Slave, nothing but a slave
Mind of a slave
Body of a slave

I find I gave away the soul
That I wanted you to save
I'm just another woman
Raised to be a slave

hungry for you
And longing for you
Burning for you
And I'm longing for you
burning for you
And I'm yearning for you
Longing for you
