I learned a little German last year, it was really fun. I have been really busy with school and other things, so I don't remember very much, but I would like to learn more in the future. I'm from America.
I dont think that you should give up on the traditional art. Just keep experimenting with it and you will probably find out how to do something cool in your style ;)
