November 21st
Dear diary, I'm writing this letter to my family who got away and were not shipped to this awful place. these people make me feel like some kind of object like merchandise. Worth a lot in the eyes of money, but nothing in the eyes of the whip that strikes my back.
Today i was oction to Mr. Stoobs. He has a nice house in the Country. he has a thick black beard and his eyes are deep in hate. Been three months now since that day and i still don't anymore at home. I work in the kitchen and when i look out the window and see all the land and beautiful flower in the sun struck bed. I think about my family. Then into the distance i see a human, not a slave nor and animal a human with cocoa skin whipped by the hand of a white man. All of a sudden the flowers are tricks of evil, being truly black. Just the the feeble mind of the white man with a whip. "Mary" i hear my name being called back to the cutting of the onions. I hear the landlords daughter and the melodious sound of the piano, "oooo Choppin...my favorite." I want so badly to learn the piano but i can't, not in this big torcher house. My eyes burn with the tears of the onions, and becoming tears of my heart when i realize....I'm living and dying int eh same wretched place.
I have to go now the evening is creeping over the land. I must get a full sleep so my whippings are upstandable.This is a small diary entry i had to write for a class. Obviously over slavery, I wrote it from the veiw of a young girl take from her family and sold to slavery in the south.
