Announcing Solo Exhibition
6/27/2011 at 11:21 PM
I am very proud to announce my first solo exhibition! From August 18th until October 16th, “Peur irrationelle des espaces clos” / “Irrational fear of confined spaces” will be displayed in the Canadian national landmark Maison sir Étienne-Paschal-Taché. The house was originally built for Sir Étienne-Paschal Taché one of the Fathers of Confederation and it is a treasured part of Canadian history. Famed artist Jean-Paul Riopelle lived in the house from 1991 to 1993. The exhibition will include some of my more familiar pieces and some brand new work as well.
Opening reception: Friday August 19th, 5pm to 8pm
37, Avenue Sainte-Marie, Montmagny, Québec

Tribute
9/5/2010 at 12:38 PM
For those of you who follow rock and metal music, you may be aware of the Chicago band called Disturbed.
They have sold over 12 million records and continue to inspire audiences around the world.
I have dedicated my new gallery to them which shares the same name as their 5th studio album; "Asylum".
The images I have selected for this collection match the band's intensity.
Prints are available for purchase, email me for details.

Concrete

Hoover Dam
I have a bit of a concrete fetish. I've always admired the way architects like Arthur Erickson use this material in their work. So when I spent some time in Nevada recently, a trip to the Hoover Dam left me breathless.
The gallery is now up: http://www.melissamercier.com/GALLERY_3.html
Wynn
On a separate note, Stephen A. Wynn was just named as a top 200 art collector in the world, and I'm honoured to have two of my pieces in his Las Vegas hotel, Wynn.

Who turned out the lights
11/17/2009 at 4:49 PM
Lately I've been somewhat of a night owl working on a project to document the city of Vancouver through night photography. I love experimenting with the elements of darkness and bursts of light. Creating images through long exposure photography allows the camera to capture moments in time that have never been seen before. The result is always unique.
This is an ongoing project that will continue to build as long as the evenings keep coming.
Thank you to Gitzo for making a tripod that works so well!

A Collection by Melissa Mercier
With Pirouette, Melissa Mercier explores the boundaries of her images and challenges the traditional presentation of the photograph.
Inspired by the turning of our planet and the cycle of life upon it, Melissa has captured an elegance in throwing tradition aside.
The viewer will find these swirling images of color and texture rich in complexity and somewhat hypnotic in their depth.
