When Lil Walt set out to create his fifth full-length album, he of course enlisted the help of his longtime partner in rhyme Menace, but decided to go a new direction with the production. "This is the first time in my career that I have done an entire project with just one producer or group of producers," says Walt. "But with Low Barons, there was a connection where we realized that we could get some amazing results through our collaboration. So we did a whole album." That album, "Devil's Dandruff", is a broad spectrum of songs, combining the versatile approach of Low Barons with the distinct lyrical abilities of Walt and Menace, two seasoned pros who have been holding down the south in the group A Dam Shame for years. With Walt acting as the visionary leader of the project and Menace in the guest-starring role, "Devil's Dandruff" also includes features from Mr. Mar, Chattanooga Red, G.r.u.d.g.e., Michael Inge and Corey Clark among others. "We set out to create songs that were different from one another, and different from what the current trends might be in the hip-hop world," explains producer Jimmy Street. "I think Walt realized that we could provide a fresh backdrop to what he wanted to say, because our approach to production is to let the lyrics make decisions for us. We are there to reinforce the message. So it was great to work with an artist like Walt because he is very open to new ideas. There is a mutual respect and understanding between us that we will do whatever it takes to make each song the best it can be."
As A Dam Shame (which also featured founding member 12 Gauge Shotti), they hooked up and recorded with some of rap's heavyweights, such as UGK, 8-Ball, Lil Jon and Too Short with production credits from Pimp C, Nitti, Lil Jon, DJ Montay, Carl Mo and Shawty Red. Over a 5 year span, they recorded 3 underground classic albums: "Revelations", "Dirty Game", and "Dirty Game II". Last year's "Different Day, Shame Shit" re-estabished Walt and Menace as representatives of the true southern street sound. Now comes "Devil's Dandruff", the collaborative effort of Lil Walt and Menace of A Dam Shame and Low Barons. The music speaks for itself, and more is sure to follow.
