when i get the urge
I make art often when i'm frustrated and want to escape, when i'm wondered about some wild thoughts, when i'm thankful to God or my friends and family, when i feel comforted by the splendor of nature, when i feel threatened by the cruelty of the world, when i'm sad, when i'm horny, when i'm avoiding some other chores...
current sonic rotations:
Last Show i was at was Hot Chip in Terminal 5 NY, back in April. Going to Longwood Gardens on July 4th for Fountains and Fireworks with Kristin, bringing it back to my formative years. They'll probly play Handel's Water Music, and stuff like John Phillips Sousa (is that the bro's name? Hooooooray for the red white and blue?) Today i am listening to tracks from Ariel Pink, i just bought David Byrne and Fatboy Slim's Collab project. Yeah bleah bleah.....

Thx 4 the comment. I love your work. It's like nothing I've ever seen. The way you capture light makes your paintings seem like stained glass windows with the ancient charm of batiks. Peace, Love & Freedom indeed. Jesus Rules.

Cutters Exhibit in Clinton, NJ

3/24/2009 at 12:44 PM

2 Fridays have passed since i first saw this exhibit which i was absolutely amazed by. I plan to go again and bring some friends with me. But i'm so glad i went alone, just to be able to take in the incomparable craftsmanship of these works. Ferserious. My favorite pieces were by Hunter Staebler, a 40" paper disc intricately cut with freeform designs resembling muslim and celtic laces; Marco Maggi, a 30"x30" etched plexi sheet that cast a shadow of an abstract map of the Hudson Bay and Manhattan, and carved color plates from textbooks shadow-cased in the book bindings they were extracted from by Brian Dettmer. This is the blurb about the exhibit from the Hunterdon Art Museum site:

"Cutters presents artists who alter objects and surfaces to enhance their visual and symbolic meanings. They use knives, scissors, scalpels, razors, hole punches, lasers, jigsaws, shredders and even plasma cutters on a variety of materials. Exploring formal and conceptual issues, the works in the exhibition comprise a wide range of media, incorporating painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, video and installation. The thread that connects this diverse group of artists is the transformative quality of their work. The artists in the exhibition are Jaq Belcher, Louise Despont, Brian Dettmer, Kate Dodd, Michelle Forsyth, Beth Gilfilen, Cal Lane, Marco Maggi, Eva Mantell, Aric Obrosey, Mia Pearlman, Casey Ruble, Hunter Stabler, Merle Temkin, Auguste Rhonda Tymeson, Carlo Vialu, Paul Villinski, and Thomas Weaver."

If yer in Jersey or PA, you gotta see this it comes down in June. Hunterdon
