Can we make the text bigger?

11/1/2007 at 9:38 PM

This is perhaps my favorite entry in the article "How to disarm 10 difficult client observations/requests"

"Can we make the text bigger?

Yes. Could you perhaps show me a couple of other websites that employ a text-size that feels right to you? We can then compare the two to see how much larger we should make it. (Note: This often leads to us finding that the proposed text is actually larger than what the client had believed.)"

Although many of the responses are filled with more jargon and buzz words than I care to use, the idea of helping clients make an informed decision seems like it could be quite effective.

"The Office" Quote of the Week

9/30/2007 at 11:52 PM

"Do I need to be liked? Absolutely not. I like to be liked. I enjoy being liked. I have to be liked. But it's not like this compulsive need to be liked, like my need to be praised."

Lost in Translation - A New Set of Ruminations

9/14/2007 at 9:39 PM

I've decided to start on a fairly extensive examination of issues of translation in Star Trek, as it relates to the Universal Translator and otherwise. First, an introduction the the concept, to be followed up on as I get around to it.

How To Design the Perfect Logo

6/7/2007 at 10:39 PM

I don't know what's funnier - the article, or the comments from people who thought it was serious.

Some of it almost makes me queasy: "Comic Sans shows your fun, creative side with its informal bounce and unique slant to the right. It’s like a cute little poodle that people can’t help but fall in love with."

Enjoy.

Great 3D Work

3/22/2007 at 5:10 PM

There are some great videos on this site

In the projects menu check out "TED" (the insect one), "SIXES LAST" (the mutant plant one), and "1ST AVE MACHINE" (the robot one). The plants and insects in particular fascinate me. They remind me of something off the Dark Crystal (if the Dark Crystal were made today with CGI).

A fun way to waste a few minutes. Anyone can translate English to Spanish. Try translating English to Valley Girl or Smurf. The more serious the website the better.

"The Office" Quotes of the Week

Making Faces . . .

1/1/2007 at 11:26 PM

Found a way to waste five or ten minutes - monoface. Click around and create funny faces.
http://www.mono-1.com/monoface/main.html

There was a game from Texas Instruments (we're talking pre-Atari - Atari vintage) called "Face Maker" where you did the same thing with simple line art faces. It looks the idea is all grown up. Although I still miss being able to make the faces wink, wiggle their ears, or stick out the tongues on command.
